Chapter 629
Sarah barely noticed the sting of alcohol on her wounds, her mind distracted by the conversation.
She had almost forgotten the pain of disinfecting, too focused on the words just spoken.
As Mrs. Wesley sat lost in thought, Sarah asked casually, "You mentioned earlier that Charlie had
caused many deaths. What exactly did he do? Did he really kill people?"
Mrs. Wesley snapped back to reality, her face filled with regret. She looked at Sarah apologetically.
"I'm sorry, it's something from many years ago. He wasn't working at the Sanders factory then, he
was..." she hesitated, her voice trailing off before offering Sarah a sheepish look. "Apologies, | don't
remember all the details. Miss Sanders, are you particularly interested in this?"
Sarah smiled faintly. "I just overheard and thought it sounded serious, so I couldn't help but ask."
Seeing the defensive look in Mrs. Wesley's eyes, Sarah smoothly changed the subject. "What do you
plan to do now?"
Mrs. Wesley sighed heavily. "I have no plan. | have nowhere to go. Over the years, because of
Charlie's gambling, I've borrowed money from every relative | could. Not only can I not repay them,
but now they avoid me. Even my own family..." she trailed off, eyes filling with tears. "I can only
stay here in the Wesley house, like you said—just barely getting by."

Mrs. Wesley looked at Sarah in confusion, but then Sarah raised a mirror to show her reflection. The woman in
the mirror had red lips and fair skin; even with wrinkles, there was a charm that still shone through.
"See, you're beautiful," Sarah said softly. "Charlie is already aging, and he reeks of decay. Don't let yourself
beca part of that. He deserves to die, but you shouldn't waste your life with him."
Her words were direct and sincere. Sarah could have easily ignored Mrs. Wesley, walked away, and not looked
back when she saw her beaten. But for sreason, she found herself walking into that room, despite the
painful sobs that filled the air. She knew that neighbours passed by the Wesley house without stopping. It wasn't
out of respect for family matters-it was because they had becso used to it.
"Thank you for tellingall of this," Mrs. Wesley said, her voice filled with gratitude.
Sarah finished bandaging her wounds and handed her santi-inflammatory medicine. "Why don't you visit
your parents? They will never reject you. Stay there for a few days, experience what it feels like to be cared for."
The thought of going hmade Mrs. Wesley's eyes light up. She hadn't been hin so long. "I'll go today.
Thank you," she said, rising from the bed.
Just as she was about to leave, she turned back toward Sarah with a sudden realization. "By the way, don't trust
anything Charlie gives you, and don't eat anything he hasn't eaten himself."
Sarah furrowed her brow. "What do you mean?"

He instinctively looked over, only to be taken aback. It was Mrs. Sanders, Melvin's mother.
Why was she here at the Chancer house? And why was she so friendly with his mother?
"Sarah is currently in West Ridge handling factory matters, so I'm sure she won't be back for a
while," Mrs. Sanders said with a smile.
