Chapter 1629:

“Can | ask a favor?” Nina's eyes were bright and earnest.

Kristian, always soft on her, nodded. “Sure thing.”

She pulled a card from her pocket. “This has my pocket money from when | was little. Can you use it to hire a

nanny for him? | want someone to take care of him.”

Kristian glanced at Jesse instinctively.

Wasn't he bothered by Nina's kindness toward another boy?

“If it’s not enough, I've got smoney too,” Jesse added.

He'd seen Nina's kindness to other boys before and chalked it up to her big heart, not realizing Damian meant

something more to her.

“I'll handle it,” Kristian said warmly. “You two don’t need to worry. I'll make sure he’s taken care of.”

“Thanks!” Nina's face brightened instantly.

After schatter, Nina remembered Jesse’s earlier comment. “Uncle Kristian, do you know the boy’s name?”

she asked cautiously.

“Yes, | do,” Kristian said.

Nina's eyes sparkled, and she shot Jesse a playful grin before asking, “Will you tell me?”

Jesse cleared his throat softly.

Nina and Kristian both looked at him.

Jesse pulled Kristian aside. “Don’t tell her.”

“Why not?” Kristian asked.

“Ill tell her later,” Jesse said simply.

“Jesse knows but won't spill,” Nina said, determined to know now. “I know you lovemost.”

“His name’s Damian Bryant,” Kristian said without missing a beat.

Jesse froze, his eyes flickering with a mix of surprise and something else as he looked at Kristian.

Kristian seemed to read his thoughts. “She’s my daughter,” he said softly.

“Goddaughter,” Jesse pointed out.

“Like a real daughter to me,” Kristian replied, his voice warm with affection as he glanced at Nina.

Jesse caught Kristian’s steady, reassuring eyes.

Finally, Jesse gave in with a nod.

Nina, oblivious to the quiet strain between them, piped up with excitement. “Uncle Kristian, can we hang out

with Damian tomorrow? He's always by himself. He must be so bored.”

“Absolutely,” Kristian said, always quick to agree with her.

Nina's face lit up, and she giggled. “I knew you're the best!”

Her joy was contagious, and Jesse chose to stay silent, letting her happiness shine. Deep down, he thought an

extra friend to care for her was a win.

That night, as bedtapproached, Jesse went to talk with Nina.

She was still miffed that Jesse hadn't spilled Damian’s nright away. With a playful pout, she teased, “You're

such a mean brother.”

“Talk nicely,” Jesse said, his tone calm but wise beyond his years.
