Chapter 1638:

Kristian added, “But that’s not the main reason.”

“Then what is it?” Jesse asked, wanting to see if his hunch was right.

“I can’t tell you yet,” Kristian replied, not wanting to weigh the child down with things he didn’t need to carry

yet. “When you're older, I'll explain it to you.”

Jesse was sure his hunch was spot on.

Kristian had no clue that Jesse knew about his past. When he saw Jesse's lips pressed tightly together, he

assumed the boy was upset. Trying to lighten the mood, Kristian smiled and asked, “Hey, Jesse, how about being

my godson?”

“No thanks,” Jesse replied simply.

Nina was already Kristian’s goddaughter, and Jesse didn’t want to hurt his dad's feelings by joining in. It would

feel like too much.

“Why not?” Kristian asked, genuinely curious about what Jesse was thinking.

“Nina is already so close to you. | don’t want my dad to feel left out,” Jesse said honestly, testing the waters with

his words.

Kristian pictured Ellis in his mind. Knowing Ellis, jealousy wasn’t his style.

After a hearty breakfast, the group hit the road.

Kristian had picked a stretch limo, making sure the three kids had plenty of space to relax during the ride.

When they rolled up to the amusement park, it was just past ten in the morning. The sun bathed the park in a

warm, golden light, wrapping everyone in its glow. Nina, always full of energy, grabbed Damian’s hand the

moment they stepped out of the stretch limo, eager to pick their first ride.

For most kids, an amusement park was a fun weekend escape, but for Damian, it was a rare treat.

Money wasn't the issue—everyone in their neighborhood had plenty.

For Damian, “play” was a word his childhood barely knew.

“Nina! Kristian! Let's go!” Nina called out, her face glowing with excitement as she waved them over. “How

about the pirate ship first?”

Jesse felt a knot in his stomach.

Before Kristian could chin, Jesse stepped forward, his face serious. “Starting with a wild ride like that isn't

smart in the morning. Let's try something calmer, like the carousel or the seesaw.”

“No way!” Nina said, her enthusiasm dimming for a moment.

Jesse puffed out his chest like a protective big brother. “Just truston this.”

“What do you think, Damian?” Nina turned to him, her eyes sparkling with charm.

“I'll go with whatever you pick.”

“I'm good with the pirate ship,” Damian said with a shrug.

Jesse sighed, feeling a bit stuck. Why would Damian pick such a heart-pounding ride?

Since they both agreed, Jesse went along, already thinking of a way to slip out later.

Last tthey visited an amusement park, he’d managed to avoid the scariest rides.

This time, however, escaping seemed trickier.

Kristian signaled for two bodyguards to stick close to the boys, while he took a seat next to Nina.
