Chapter 1645:

Before Kristian could answer, Freya cut in with a playful scoff, “Don’t believe him.” Kristian fell silent, caught off

guard.

Nina looked confused, tilting her head.

“Freya, it's not a problem,” Kristian said, his voice soft but heavy with feeling. “I can sort out her schooling if she

stays.”

Freya said firmly, “No need. She’d better study in Alerith.”

Kristian pressed his lips together, torn inside.

Nina, after a moment of thought, spoke with confidence. “I'll head back with Jesse the day after tomorrow.”

Freya nodded. “Sounds good.”

After the call ended, Ellis nudged Freya with a teasing smile, noticing her sigh of relief. “Are you that worried Nina

might stay in Jeucwell for school?” he asked.

Freya raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you?”

Ellis stayed calm, shrugging lightly. “What's there to worry about?”

Freya gave him a long look.

He pulled her close, his eyes warm with affection. “What's with that stare?”

Freya spoke plainly, though her tone was softer than it used to be. “Sometimes | wonder if you care about me.

Kristian wanted Nina as his goddaughter, and you were fine with it. Now she’s thinking about staying there for

school, and you're still so relaxed.”

Shouldn't most people feel a twinge of jealousy? Or at least a little concern deep down?

Ellis grinned, his hand resting gently on her waist. “Wantto prove how much | care?” His voice was teasing,

his smile warm. “The kids aren’t here. | can show you right now.”

Freya quickly shook her head. “No thanks.”

“Really?” Ellis’s voice lifted, playful.

“I was just saying,” Freya said, backtracking with a shy smile. “Didn’t mean anything by it.”

Ellis’s tone softened. “Kristian wanting Nina as his goddaughter doesn’t bother me. One more person looking out

for her is a good thing. And if she wants to study in Jeucwell, do you think she can stay without my say-so?”

Freya went quiet, thinking it over.

“I'm her dad,” Ellis said firmly. At her age, his guidance was non-negotiable.

Freya sighed. “I need to work late tonight.” Feeling she’d misread him, she tried to slip away.

Ellis gently grabbed her wrist, pulling her back into his arms. “How about I join you for sovertime?”

Freya froze.

“Is that okay?” he whispered, his voice warm.

“No,” Freya said, biting her lip. The thought of what he meant made her feel weak. “Melvin said the project's

urgent. | have to work.”

Ellis smirked. “I've just talked to him. Even he isn’t swamped recently.”

Freya paused, caught off guard. She didn’t know how to push back.
