Chapter 1658:
“Can | see Nina?” Jerpressed his lips together, clearly nervous and a bit uncertain. “I want to talk to her.”
“Go ahead.” Freya didn’t stop him. She believed kids should sort out their own problems, stepping in only if they
couldn't handle it.
Jerthanked her and headed upstairs.
As he climbed, guilt and unease crept into his chest. He didn’t know if Nina would forgive him. He didn’t know if
she was up there crying, or wondering if their friendship still mattered.
Actually, he was overthinking it. After her talk with Freya, Nina had been pulling Jesse in to help her pick out a
gift.
Since it was for Christmas and an apology, the two were so focused and caught up in the task that they didn’t

It wasn’t until Jercalled out that Nina finally snapped out of her gift-selecting daze.
Nina's eyes widened in confusion. She blinked at Jesse. “I think | just heard Jerome's voice.”
Jesse glanced toward the doorway and saw Jerstanding there, a swirl of emotions flickering across his face.
“Jerome?” Nina called out.
“Can | cin?” Jerasked, hesitating on the threshold.

Jerwalked over slowly. Under Nina and Jesse's watchful eyes, he took a moment to gather himself before
speaking. “I'm sorry.”
Nina paused.

Jesse, too, was caught slightly off guard.
“It was my fault,” Jeradmitted, his tone sincere. “I shouldn't have said those things that put you in a tough
spot. And | definitely shouldn't have asked for the gift that was meant for you.” He knew he’d crossed a line, but
emotions had clouded his better judgment. “Can you forgive me?”
Nina hadn’t expected the apology to cso soon. She nodded almost immediately. “Yes.”
“Thank you,” Jersaid, letting out a quiet sigh of relief.
When he reflected on it, he realized he had been acting more like a sulking child than the mature figure he saw
himself as. He shouldn't have been so petty. He shouldn't have hurt her like that.
“Can you take these things home?” Nina still hoped he would accept the gifts. “I didn’t pick them out myself; |
was afraid | wouldn't find anything special enough. So, | asked Uncle Kristian to do it for me.”
“Okay.” Jernodded.
Nina wasn’t one to hold onto grudges. If someone apologized sincerely, she was quick to forgive.
“Really?”
“Yeah,” Jerome’s voice csofter this time.
Nina let out a giggle.
