| was packing the last of my things, a list forming in my head to make sure | didn’t forget anything. | was only
going for a few days, but | wanted to make | had everything | needed.
| hadn't talked to Jake for hours. When | got out the shower he had already left. | only assumed he went to his
parents but who knows. He was in a right funk, but I was taking nothing to do with it. He would cout his
mood the way he went into it.
We were both adults and if he didn’t want to sit and talk about it than that was his choice. | was visiting with my
dad. I wasn’t leaving him, | wasn’t ending our relationship, so | had no idea why he was making such a big deal
about it.
| zipped up my case and placed it by the bedroom door before making my way downstairs. My dad was sitting at
the kitchen table with a cup of coffee.
“I didn’t know you were here”. | frowned.
“Coffee is hot”. He smiled.
| poured myself sbefore sitting across from him. “Were you with Charlotte and Jacob?”. | asked.
He nodded. “They still don’t know what to do with that young boy. Personally, I'd let him stay but Jacob thinks

“Jacob has always been the sfrom the first day | met him. He's skeptical about everything and untl he really
knows you he doesn’t trust you. In fact, he trusts no one”.
Hm. | didn’t get that vibe from him. | mean he never really says much when we're sharing the scompany. |
always thought he was very reserved.
“Do you still want to have dinner, or should we just hit the road?”.
“You really want to do this?”. He asked.
“Yes”. | made a face.
“Don’t you think you should speak to Jake before we leave?”.
“Do you see Jake?”. | waved my hand in front of me. “If he wanted to talk, he wouldn't have left. I'm packed and
ready to go when you are”.
“Okay, just letgrab my bags and I'll meet you outside”.
| carried my case outside but stopped halfway down the driveway. His truck was parked at the bottom blocking
us in. | wasn’t in the mood for an argument. | didn’t want to be pissed off and in a bad mood all night.
Flashing his lights a sigh fell from my lips as | walked towards his truck.
“I'm not fighting with you”. | spoke.
“You think | want to fight with you?”. He took my case placing it in the trunk “I’m driving you”.
“You are?”. | frowned.
“Do you really think | was going to let you go without seeing you. You're going to be gone a week, Leah. Being
away from you for a day is hard enough never mind a week”.
“I wanted to talk and by the t| got out the shower you were gone”.
“Speaking of why'd you shower in the main bathroom?”.
Oh, crap.
| shrugged and sighed relief when | heard our front door open and close. Good old dad to the rescue.
“Jake, are you coming with us?”. He asked.
“Just driving her there and then I'll be coming back”.
“You're more than welcto stay with Leah if you want”.
“He’s right”. | gave him a small smile. “I always wanted you to cwith me”.
“I'm needed here babe, and I think you need to do this on your own”.
| chewed the inside of my cheek as | nodded. Why make such a big deal about it and then not cwith me.
Sometimes | wished | knew what went on in his head.
