Chapter 392

Just as he was about to walk over, Nathaniel heard footsteps in the distance. It was Peyton emerging from

Freya's room, with a face of heavy concern.

Instinctively, Nathaniel hid on a balcony nearby. He was in a terrible mood and didn't want to meet anyone.

He sat down on a chair on the balcony, looking at the rolling mountains and the view outside the window, yet

feeling a heavy burden in his heart.

Eventually, Nathaniel stood up and discarded the cigarette he nearly crushed into powder.

Freya's health was so poor that she couldn't be exposed to secondhand smoke.

Even his only outlet for relief was blocked. Feeling somewhat frustrated, he headed towards Freya's bedroom.

They had a larger bedroom in the castle that had just been set up as their bridal suite for the wedding night. But

for the tbeing, they stayed in separate rooms. Despite the arrangement, Nathaniel often snuck into Freya's

room.

This path to boundless happiness was now well-trodden for him.

He stopped outside Freya's room. He raised his hand, placing his palm on the cold door. feeling an even stronger

chill inside.

Nathaniel took a deep breath, turned the doorknob, and walked inside.

Only the wall lamp was left on in the room, with the ceiling light turned off to facilitate sleep. The curtains were

drawn to a single sheer later, with the heavier velvet curtains left open, allowing the hazy moon light to filter

through.

The dim moonlight cast a soft glow on Freya lying in bed. She was not asleep. She couldn't sleep. She had just

been talking with Peyton, who had advised her to rest early.

Upon hearing those familiar footsteps outside the door, Freya quickly turned to the door.

At her sight, Freya's body tensed up, knowing that she had truly deceived him this time.

Others might not have seen through her act on the cliff, but Nathaniel surely did.

Freya attempted to sit up straight, but Nathaniel pressed her shoulder down and then sat beside her.

"Was the doctor here? Are your injuries better?" Nathaniel asked, pulling up a chair to sit by her bed. Freya

glanced at him, "Better. It's just slight wounds."

"Did you take your medicine?" Nathaniel lifted her arm to inspect the wounds. The left-over rope marks were

treated with ointment.

Freya frowned. She expected him to get angry, perhaps even furious enough to strangle her. After all, she

deceived him about their wedding and love. It was a serious matter.

Freya, no longer wanting to play games with Nathaniel, withdrew her arm from his hand and looked him straight

in the eye. "Nathaniel, lied to you. Everything Abigail said was true."

en

As soon as she finished speaking, the atmosphere between them grey heavy and tense.

Nathaniel rested his arms on his knees, sitting there facing Freya, looking somewhat lost and confused.

Freya took a deep breath and

continued, "Back then, Taylor took

her life in front of you. As he lay dying, he begged you to spare his sister's life. One life for another. You agreed."

en

Nathaniel's heart dropped.

That time, he sent Koen to a private hospital in East Saeville and called Freya. He sensed something was wrong

but couldn't pinpoint what it was.

Now he understood how desperate Freya must have felt, for that he had forgiven Abigail.

Freya turned away from Nathaniel, looking out at the intricately carved Porejimo-style window. The mountain

scenery was hazy but beautiful.

Her heart calmed down a little.
