Chapter 1416:
Just moments ago, he was joking with her. Then, in the blink of an eye, he collapsed. Things like that didn’t just
happen. Something must be terribly wrong.
Heavy footsteps echoed down the hallway, quick and unsteady. Multiple sets. Voices filled with breathless
urgency.
Cordell rushed in with Ferris close behind.
“Mr. Scott, please—slow down—"
Ferris didn’t listen. His focus was fixed ahead, every thought centered on his youngest son.
“What happened?” he demanded, stopping in front of Hadley. His sharp gaze pinned her in place. “Where is
Eric?”
Hadley looked up slowly. Her face was pale, drawn. “He hasn't woken up yet. The doctors are still examining
him.”
“How could he faint like that?” Ferris snapped. “I trusted you to look after him, and this is how you do your job?”
How was this her fault?
Hadley gave a quiet, bitter laugh. “Mr. Scott, | respect you as an elder. That's the only reason | won't argue with
you right now. Please wait for the results calmly.”

“You—"
“Mr. Scott!” Cordell stepped forward and pulled him aside, speaking in a low voice. “This isn’t Miss Pearson's
fault. Just before Mr. Scott collapsed, they were talking. Laughing, even.”
Ferris’ chest tightened. He shot Cordell a hard glare. “If anything happens to my son, everyone with him will be
held responsible.”
“Yes, Mr. Scott.” Cordell lowered his head and fell silent.
Just then, the emergency room door opened. The doctor stepped out.

Ferris moved first, faster than anyone else. “How is my son?”
“The test results are in,” the doctor said. “Mr. Scott, let's speak in my office.”
A heavy silence settled between them. Ferris and Hadley both felt it—like something had just shifted.
Inside the doctor's office, the chief physician waited with the emergency and diagnostics teams. The room was
full.
The chief physician then pulled out the report, pointed to a spot on the scan, and held it up for Ferris and Hadley.
“Here. This shadow—Mr. Scott, Miss Pearson, do you see it?”
Hadley nodded silently, a tight feeling building in her chest.
You didn’t need to be a doctor to know—a shadow on a brain scan was never a good sign.
“| see it!" Ferris leaned in, his voice
sharp with urgency. (het daexiit)
