Chapter 379
Charlotte clutched the edge of the table, her hands trembling uncontrollably as
she listened to the cold voice on the other end of the line. "Miss Wilson, you can't just abandon me
like this! What am | supposed to do now? | don't want to go to prison!" she pleaded, her voice
shaking.
Vivian's reply was icy. "You don't want to go to prison? Well, neither does anyone else. Don't bring
this matter toagain, Charlotte. Don't forget-this entire situation was your doing, not mine. 1 had
no part in it. Instead of wasting tcalling me, why don't you focus on James? You're carrying his
child-he's not going to let anything happen to you."
Without waiting for a response, Vivian hung up, leaving only the harsh, empty tone of the
disconnected call.
Charlotte froze, staring at the phone in disbelief. Her chest tightened with panic. Vivian had given
up on her, and Charlotte couldn't blher. From the start, she had been the one to take action,
ensuring Vivian's nstayed out of everything. Now that the situation had spiraled out of control,
she had no evidence to implicate Vivian in any of it.
Lucy had been the first scapegoat, but now Charlotte herself was poised to take the fall.

She sank onto the edge of the bed, gasping for air as the gravity of her predicament set in. Minutes
passed, each one dragging on like an eternity.
When James finally entered the room, his eyes immediately locked on her pale face and trembling hands.
"Charlotte," he called softly, concern etched across his face. "What's wrong? Is it the baby? Are you in pain?"
She shook her head weakly, unable to meet his gaze. Her thoughts were a tangled mess. Right now, only the
Chancers could save her. Lucy had already been sent to the detention center, leaving Charlotte dangerously
exposed. If everything she had done cto light, she would undoubtedly face prison.
Her eyes drifted to James, who was kneeling in front of her, his face filled with worry as he reached out to hold
her hand. Charlotte hesitated, but she knew she couldn't delay any longer. She had to cclean before Sarah
blindsided them. If she didn't act now, even James might not be able to help her in time.
Tears welled up in her eyes, spilling over and streaking down her pale cheeks, making her look even more
fragile. James panicked at the sight, quickly grasping her hand as though afraid she might collapse at any
moment.
"Charlotte, are you in pain? Tellwhere it hurts!" he urged, his voice tight with worry.
"Charlotte, what's wrong? If something is troubling you, just tell me," James said, his voice laced with concern.
Tears welled up in Charlotte's eyes as she looked at him, her voice trembling. "James, if one day you found out
I'd made a terrible mistake, what would you do?"
James felt a sinking feeling in his chest. "What kind of mistake?" he asked cautiously.
Charlotte threw herself into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably. "James, it's all my fault."
"What are you talking about?" James asked, his brows furrowed in concern.
"The incident at Luthers' villa-it wasn't Lucy. It was me," Charlotte confessed through her tears. "I was the one
who drove the car there. When you askedabout it, | was too scared to admit the truth. Lucy ended up in
detention because of my selfishness. It's all my fault."
Her voice cracked as she continued, gasping for air between sobs. "James, you should turnin. |
deserve it."
Her hands clenched into tight fists, waiting anxiously for James to respond. Would he send her to
prison, or would he look the other way and let Lucy continue to take the blame?
Before James could say a word, his mother burst into the room, her presence commanding. She
quickly stepped between them and placed a protective hand on Charlotte's shoulder. "Don't be
afraid, Charlotte. If it's money they want, we'll pay them," she declared.
Turning to James, her tone becstern. “James, you can't afford to lose your head right now.
Charlotte is pregnant. Prison is no place for someone in her condition."
She paused, her gaze sharpening. "Besides, Lucy has made plenty of mistakes before. Letting her
learn a lesson this tmight actually do her sgood."
James stood there, his face tense and unreadable. His mother had once been willing to do anything
to protect Lucy, but now she was so quick to justify leaving her to take the fall.
The weight of the situation pressed down on him, leaving him in a silent, conflicted turmoil.
