Chapter 419
"Charlotte's been arrested, and you're still here trying to convinceto take the blame?" Lucy said angrily.
Mrs. Chancer's face showed embarrassment at being exposed, but she remained firm. "Lucy, given how things
have turned out, you need to be more understanding.”
"If Charlotte wasn't pregnant right now, | would protect you no matter what - you are my biological daughter
after all. But the situation is different. She's carrying the Chancer family's only heir, and | must protect that child
at all costs. Don't worry, even if you take the blfor her, your brother and I will do everything in our power to
get you out."
Lucy laughed bitterly. "Mom, you already said all this the last tyou visited. Have you forgotten what
happened then?"
She found it ironic that since her detention and imprisonment, her mother had only visited twice - first to
convince her to take the blame, which led to her suicide attempt, and now again with the srequest.
It had only been days since her suicide attempt, and barely out of the hospital, here was her mother again.
She didn't want to hear any more of these twisted words. She stood up to leave. "If you're only here about
Charlotte, maybe you shouldn't cat all."
Back home, Mrs. Chancer was sighing about asking James about any progress when he confronted her first.
"Mom, you went to see my sister again? Still trying to make her take the blame? Every piece of evidence the
police have points to Charlotte. Yet you're still trying to pin this on Lucy? You nearly cost her life last time, and

"Fine! You all say it's my fault. Would | be doing this if it wasn't for your child?" Mrs. Chancer snapped, at her

She stormed off to her room, locking herself in.
James returned to his study, his head pounding. Recent events had been overwhelming, even for him.
He had to save Charlotte. The only way now was through Sarah - if she dropped the charges, Charlotte would
likely be released.
At dusk, as the last rays of sunlight faded, James walked into Sarah's counseling office at Adams University.
The door was open, and as he
entered, Sarah looked at him with
confusion. "What brings you hereMr.
Chancer?" Sara pseyised h&nust
