Chapter 609
"Worthless deadbeat, you dare gamble without money?"
"Pay back the tens of thousands you owe us, or we'll take your life!"
Despite being beaten bloody, the man lying on the ground still begged pitifully, "Please stop! Lendjust a
thousand more! Just one thousand! I'll win it all back, | promise, and pay you immediately!"
The suited man looked away and approached the table, the thick smoke making him uncomfortable.
The manager smirked and made several hand signals behind his back. His men immediately understood and
moved closer.
They exchanged glances. They had expected to fleece him badly, but to their surprise, he'd won fifteen
consecutive rounds, totaling fifty thousand!
The man, seemingly satisfied with his winnings, prepared to leave.
The manager wasn't about to let him walk away so easily. He approached. "Leaving after winning so much?
That's rather impolite, isn't it?"
"What do you want?" the man asked expressionlessly.
The manager raised an eyebrow. "Play a few more rounds with me?"
The man shook his head resignedly and leaned closer to the manager. "I know you won't letjust take this
money. How about I leave it here, and you lettake someone with me?"

"Who?"
The man pointed to the badly beaten figure in the corner. "I want to take him."
"Fine. He's off the hook this time." The manager waved, and his men immediately dispersed.
The suited man helped the battered gambler out of the den. The latter was so swollen and bruised he could
barely open his eyes.
The local hospital was just a dilapidated three-story building in town, lacking even basic facilities.
Sarah awoke to the sharp smell of disinfectant.
She frowned at the IV in her hand, laughing bitterly at herself. Only two days after leaving the hospital, she was
back again.
A nurse cin to change the IV bag. Sarah asked, "How long was | unconscious?"
"Not long, about five or six hours. Your period cwhile you had a cold, and your body couldn't handle it. Some
glucose and cold medicine will fix you up. Nothing serious," the nurse said gently.
Sarah nodded gratefully. "I understand."
The hospital room had dirty walls and dubious bedding. The wall clock showed 4 PM.
After her IV, she lay in bed, lost in thought.
The door to the room stood open - too damaged to close properly, like the peeling walls around it.
She pondered the factory situation. Manager Sun was a dead end. She'd need to work through Mr. Lambert, or
failing that... Charlie Wesler.
Charlie seemed like a small-minded fool, which might make him a potential weak point.
Her phone rang - it was Melvin.
"Sasa, I'm coming tonight to take you home," he said in a tone that brooked no argument. Mr. Lambert must
have told him what happened.
"Cousin! Please don't come," Sarah
protested. "I've oe herexwo
darperdiowrts Ived anything yet.
There's no reason to leave now!" The
