Chapter 671

"Zachary?"

Sarah didn't push him away. She just found his behavior today strangely out of character.

She had never seen Zachary like this before. Even when she thought back to everything that had happened

between them, the only tshe had ever seen him truly broken was at the cemetery. He had stood there,

dressed in a black suit, in front of his mother's tombstone. The black-and-white photo on the grave was somber

and still, while the sorrow hidden in Zachary's eyes felt endless.

Mr. Lambert had mentioned to her earlier that he'd seen Zachary and Charlie together today. Could it be...

Zachary already knew the truth?

What kind of terrible, heartbreaking truth could possibly leave a man like him looking this devastated?

"Did you... find out something?" Sarah asked him softly.

Zachary buried his head against her shoulder, giving a low, muffled reply. When he had been at the factory,

listening to the things Charlie said, he had forced himself to stay calm, keeping up the image of a rational,

emotionless investigator. But deep down, hearing anything about his mother still sent his emotions into complete

turmoil. He didn't want to believe that these people so ruthless, so cold-blooded — had destroyed everything in

their way just to cover up a truth far more disgusting than he had imagined.

Still, when he thought about it again, he wasn't really surprised. They had been willing to swap out even the

chemical butanol, willing to let the entire factory go down with them — all just to hide that secret.

"Her death wasn't an accident."

Zachary's sudden words caught Sarah off guard.

Her heart skipped a beat. By "her," he could only mean Mrs. Reynolds — Zachary's late mother.

"Then... what was it?" Sarah asked carefully. She wasn't sure if Zachary was ready to talk about it.

Zachary's eyes lifted toward the endless sky. His voice was distant, weighed down with grief.

"It was murder. The Wilsons did it."

Just seven simple words.

But combined with everything she had guessed before, and all the things Charlie's wife had hinted at, it finally all

made sense.

It had been a conspiracy from the very beginning.

Sarah didn't press for more details. If Zachary was willing to talk, she was willing to listen.

But between them, there were still too many obstacles — too many moments of "the tisn't right." She didn't

know when that right twould ever come, or what exactly Zachary meant by it.

For the next half hour, Zachary just sat quietly by the roadside, staring blankly ahead, lost in thought.

And Sarah sat right beside him, holding a piece of wild grass, trying to braid it into the shape of a little animal.

For a moment, it felt like they had gone back to the way things used to be - before Vivian, before the factory,

before all this chaos. Just the two of them, sitting side by side in peace.

"How's the situation at Sanders factory?" Zachary finally asked.

Sarah thought for a second. "It's going okay."

Now that Mr. Sullivan was no longer in the way, she and Mr. Lambert had

managed to straighten things out from top to bottom. The factory was finally

getting back on track. In fact, her cousin had even sent over a few new machines.

"There's one more thing | need your help with," Zachary said.

Sarah raised a brow. "What is it?"

"Report Charlie to the police. Six million in damages - that should be enough to put him away for a few years,

don't you think?"

"No problem."
