Chapter 380
Charlotte felt a surge of joy deep inside. She had been racking her brain for ways to convince James
to let her off the hook, but now it seemed Mrs. Chancer would shield her completely.
Wiping away a few deliberate tears, she cried out, "Mom, this is all my fault. Please don't blame
James. Lucy ended up in the detention center because of me. Even if you sendto prison, |
wouldn't complain. It's my mistake."
Mrs. Chancer shook her head firmly and stood protectively in front of Charlotte. "Silly child, why are
you saying such things? All you need to do is focus on resting and taking care of yourself. Giving me
a healthy grandson is far more important than anything else.”
Deep down, Mrs. Chancer was hurting.
After all, it was her daughter Lucy who had been thrown under the bus and sent to jail.
If it weren't for the precious grandchild growing in Charlotte's belly, she would have agreed in an
instant to let Charlotte face the consequences and free Lucy.
Mrs. Chancer forced herself to push past the pain and made the ultimate decision. Charlotte turned to James,

Tears streamed down Charlotte's cheeks like shimmering pearls, and she wiped at her nose with feigned
innocence as she gazed at James.
Mrs. Chancer remained nearby, watching James intently. Finally, James sighed in exhaustion and relented. "Stay
hand focus on the baby. Don't think about this anymore. I'll figure out what to do about Lucy."
With that, Charlotte quickly dropped her sorrowful facade, wiping away her tears as Mrs. Chancer returned to her
room. Alone with James, Charlotte couldn't help but press further. "James, please get Lucy out of there."
"I want to help her, but it's not as simple as wanting it to happen," James said, weariness evident in his tone. "I'll
do my best."
The next day, Sarah boarded a car heading to the detention center.
Inside the holding cell, Lucy had been waiting for days, but the people she hoped to see never came. No one
from the Chancer family or even Vivian had shown up. She had finally accepted the painful truth—she had been
abandoned.
Thinking back to what Charlotte had said during her visit, Lucy realized she had been clinging to false hope.
Now, the harsh reality was clear. She was nothing more than a pawn in someone else's game.
"Lucy Chancer, someone's here to see you," the guard announced.
Her heart skipped a beat. Who could it be? Her brother? Her mother? Or maybe Vivian?
When the police escorted her out, she froze upon seeing the visitor. It wasn't James, nor was it her mother or
Vivian. Instead, it was the last person she ever expected-Sarah Sanders.
The moment Lucy saw her, her face turned cold. "What are you doing here? Did you cto gloat?
Or to mock me? Are you here to flaunt your victory?"
Sarah sat calmly across from her, her expression composed. She smiled faintly. "Lucy, it's been a
while, but your sharp tongue hasn't dulled a bit."
"What do you want? | don't want to see you," Lucy said bitterly. The entire situation stung.
Sarah was dressed impeccably, looking polished and confident, while Lucy sat there in her prison
uniform, branded a criminal. The contrast was a cruel irony.
Sarah didn't react to Lucy's hostility. She spoke evenly, her voice clear. "Lucy, | know you weren't
the one behind what happened at the Luthers' villa."
Lucy was startled. The words caught her off guard. She had spent days trying to prove her
innocence, but her brother hadn't believed her, nor had her mother. Yet here was Sarah-the very
person she had tried to harm—saying she believed her.
A bitter laugh escaped Lucy's lips. "And why are you saying this now? Are you here out of pity? Or is
there something you're trying to get out of me?"
