Chapter 978
After a long, heavy silence, Jules finally tried to make peace. "Ethan, don't worry.
If anything happens at home, I'll take responsibility. You have my word."
Morris's lips quirked into a sly, mocking smile.
Jules had only brought him back because they were father and son-nothing more. Deep down, he couldn't bring
himself to trust Morris completely. So when Jackson started slinging mud at Morris, Jules just couldn't step up and
defend him outright.
At the end of the day, he was just trying to keep the peace.
Morris spoke up, voice smooth and cool. "In that case, you'd better keep a close eye on your precious little
wallet. Mistresses are expensive these days. Don't blow all your money and try to pin it on me."
Jackson's face turned stormy. "Are you callingout?"
Morris just shrugged. "Just telling it like it is."
Jackson's jaw clenched in anger. He did have a little something on the side-a sweet, quiet girl. He'd set her up in
a pretty villa, slipped her plenty of spending money each month, and even let her have his child.
But she was discreet, never asking for more, never making trouble, living quietly in that villa and hardly ever
reaching out. He was sure Morris couldn't possibly know about her. This was just a bluff.
Instead of backing down, Jackson doubled down. "You've got snerve. Framingis a crime, you know.
Morris, | should call the cops on you."

Morris looked at him with bored contempt.
Then, out of nowhere, Morris said the girl's nickname: "Makinley."
Jackson went dead silent, like someone had flipped his off switch.
Morris shook his head and sighed. "I'm only staying at the Sharp family estate for
a short while. I'm not here to threaten anyone's interests. If you leavealone, we'll all get along just fine. But
if you try to mess with me, you'll only end up hurting yourselves."
It looked like the show was over-but a new one was just beginning.
Jackson's wife glared at him, voice sharp as a knife: "Who is Makinley?"
"How much money have you spent on her?"
Jackson shot Morris a look full of venom, but Morris just sat there, calm and collected in his wheelchair, looking
like he was watching a play.
Jackson had no choice but to try and calm his wife. "Babe, I'll explain everything later. Don't let the kid get
between us."
With that, he hustled her out of the room.
The second and third branches of the family, catching on to Morris's dangerous
vibe, forced awkward smiles and took their leave.
Morris took off his sunglasses and met Jules's gaze.
"Sorry for the trouble," he said.
Jules was caught off guard, his
feelings all tangled up-a mix of
admiration for Morig'ggot edd, a
sting ofSypathy for the way he
been mistreated, and an even deeper
worry about how he'dbever get
through to this wild child. s The
