Chapter 281: Chapter 281: You Will Be Soft-hearted?
Cheng Lie, after getting drunk, seemed far clingier than usual and actually held onto her clothes and refused to
let go.
Yun Shifei couldn't think of any other way, so she supported Cheng Lie and helped him into the house.
Cheng Lie’s house was heated, and as soon as she entered, Yun Shifei felt especially comfortable.
She removed Cheng Lie’s jacket, sat him down on the sofa, and then went to pour him a cup of hot water.
Seeing Cheng Lie sitting obediently, without causing the kind of drunken ruckus others might, Yun Shifei let out a
sigh of relief.
After finishing these tasks, Yun Shifei made a phone call to Zhao Pan.
"Brother Zhao, can you cover to Cheng Lie’s house for a bit?" she asked.
At that moment, Zhao Pan had already parked his car near Cheng Lie’s house.
Just moments ago, when Cheng Lie told him to stay away, Zhao Pan wasn’t sure why, but after seeing Yun Shifei
appear and help Cheng Lie leave, Zhao Pan had a vague guess about what was going on.
On one hand, he marveled at Mr. Cheng’s cunning; he didn’t know how Mr. Cheng managed to cup with
such a conniving idea. Even though he’d followed Fourth Master for years and was used to witnessing his
schemes, Zhao Pan still found himself in awe of Mr. Cheng’s ingenuity.
Really?
On the other hand, he thought to himself that no wonder Fourth Master valued Cheng Lie so highly—he must
have seen a reflection of himself in him.
So now he was supposed to face Cheng Lie? Wouldn't that be walking straight to his doom?
Earlier, he had already let Cheng Lie down, and now he couldn't afford to sabotage Mr. Cheng again.
"What's going on, Miss Yun?" He inquired casually, feigning ignorance.
"How could you all do this? You made him drink so much and didn’t even ensure he got hsafely." At this
point, Yun Shifei was visibly angry.
Listening to her voice brimming with annoyance, Zhao Pan felt like he was being unfairly blamed.
Fine. Since he had already inadvertently caused trouble for Cheng Lie before, he might as well accept
responsibility in this instance.
"I'm sorry, Miss Yun. | didn’t know Mr. Cheng couldn’t handle his drinks that well." Zhao Pan replied cautiously,
"At the time... Fourth Master neededfor something, so | had to leave."

what to say.
For a moment, it felt as though they had returned to the past.
Back then, Cheng Lie was not the powerful figure he was now, but a pitiable boy with no status in the Cheng
Family.
Even though she now knew that his vulnerability had been an act, Yun Shifei couldn't help but reflect on the fact
that a child learning to put on such a disguise from such a young age must have endured something
unimaginable at the hands of the Cheng Family.
"Shi Fei, | want more water." Cheng Lie raised the cup toward Yun Shifei, looking at her pleadingly.
Yun Shifei had no choice but to walk over and take the cup.
Cheng Lie continued, "Shi Fei, | want candy."
Yun Shifei always carried a few candies in her pocket, so she pulled out a lemon-flavored one and handed it to
Cheng Lie.
Cheng Lie accepted the candy and was about to put it in his mouth.
Yun Shifei was startled and quickly grabbed it back, exclaiming, "You can’t eat it with the wrapper still on!"
She scolded Cheng Lie lightly, then peeled off the candy wrapper for him and said, "Open your mouth."
She was genuinely worried that Cheng Lie might eat the candy along with the wrapper.
She hadn't anticipated that a drunken Cheng Lie would be as clueless as this.
He seemed like a computer that had suddenly crashed—completely unresponsive no matter what.
Cheng Lie obediently opened his mouth, and Yun Shifei placed the candy inside.
To her surprise, before she could withdraw her hand, Cheng Lie’s lips closed on her fingers.
He ended up holding Yun Shifei’s fingers in his mouth.
Yun Shifei froze for a moment before quickly pulling her fingers out of Cheng Lie’s mouth.
However, the soft and warm sensation of his breath still lingered on her hand, making her heart race and her
cheeks flush.
She secretly glanced at Cheng Lie—he was sitting quietly with a rather vacant look in his eyes, as if he wasn’t
aware of what had just happened.
In that state, he genuinely seemed like the boy he used to be.
This left Yun Shifei wondering whether the Cheng Lie from back then had ever truly existed.
Cheng Lie’s lips pressed into a slight line, the tangy sweetness of the lemon candy spreading throughout his
mouth. Yet, more tempting than the taste of the candy was the sensation of her fingertips.
He admitted it—he had done it on purpose. Originally, he'd intended to lightly bite her fingers but stopped, afraid
of scaring her.
Merely holding her fingers in his mouth had already startled her enough.
Even though he wasn’t looking directly at Yun Shifei, he could still sense the girl's gaze darting over him, as if
wanting to say something but hesitating to do so.
How amusing. A faint smile appeared on Cheng Lie’s lips.
Unfortunately, the gdidn’t last long before Yun Shifei sat beside him, quietly observing him and murmuring
under her breath, "You're always like this. Sometimes, | don’t even know if you likeor not."
She truly didn’t know if Cheng Lie liked her.
Having never been loved by anyone, she wasn’t sure whether Cheng Lie’s mannerisms counted as affection.
Regardless, liking or not liking ended up being the same, didn’t it?
She couldn't always find herself soft-hearted just because of the way Cheng Lie acted.
Taking advantage of Cheng Lie’s drunken, silly demeanor, she stroked his hair and smiled, "Don’t showthis
obedient and pitiable side of you anymore, okay? Otherwise, I'll keep softening toward you."
Hearing this, Cheng Lie glanced at her. "You'd soften?"
Startled when he responded, Yun Shifei thought for a moment that Cheng Lie had sobered up.
But upon seeing his dazed expression and dreamy gaze, she realized he was still drunk.
She replied, "Yes, | don't like feeling soft-hearted. We should just go our separate ways, shouldn't we?"
It was an hour later before Zhao Pan finally mustered the courage to push open Cheng Lie’s door.
He wondered how far Mr. Cheng and Miss Yun had taken things.
Or perhaps the two of them had

Knowing Mr. Cheng’s devious personality, Zhao Pan feared Miss Yun might be left utterly defenseless.
However, as he stepped inside, the imagined scene was nowhere to be found.
All he saw was Cheng Lie sitting alone on the sofa, lazily casting him an indifferent glance.
Zhao Pan: "..."
Why does this feel completely different from the scena| pictured?
"Mr. Cheng, where's Miss Yun?"
"She went back."
Zhao Pan nodded and asked, "Did things go well between you two?"

Surely, if the two of them had properly communicated, any lingering conflict would be resolved.
Upon hearing Zhao Pan’s question, Cheng Lie remained silent. What would constitute "going well"?
Despite "getting drunk," Yun Shifei still maintained her usual distance when talking to him.
Was it truly impossible for them to return to the way things were?
She had even asked him not to show his vulnerable side around her anymore.
Afraid she might start falling for him.
What did that mean?
Cheng Lie let out a faint scoff—he

Trying to win her affection by appearing pathetic? He didn’t care for that at all.
From now on, he wouldn't show that side of himself in front of her again.
