Chapter 1857

When Fiona got hfrom school and spotted the note on the kitchen table, it felt like her whole world had just

imploded.

In big, carefree handwriting, it simply said: "Off on an adventure, don't bug us unless it's an emergency." At the

end, her mom had cheekily added a smiley face emoji.

Fiona dashed to her parents’ room, only to find it completely stripped bare. It was like Sophie and Colby had

vanished overnight, leaving not a single trace behind.

From the window of the Costello family's home, Fiona heard a car horn blaring. Alec had already pulled up at the

mansion's entrance.

With a stormy look on her face, Fiona rushed downstairs, ready to vent to Alec: "It's over! My parents have

disappeared!"

Alec, however, seemed unfazed: "Big deal. My parents did the sthing!"

Fiona's face darkened even more. "These unreliable adults!"

Meanwhile, Sophie and Colby were already soaring off overseas.

"Colby, | gotta admit, since leaving the house, my guilt's been off the charts," Sophie said, trying not to laugh at

the thought of their daughter's reaction to the note.

It wasn't that she was a lousy mother, but she had to admit, it was a bit on the cheeky side.

"The kids are grown up now; they need their own space to grow. We don't need to hover over them all the time,"

Colby said. "They might even like it better without us around."

"I'm not so sure about our daughter," Sophie pondered, but she wasn't worried about Alec. After all, Jenna and

Adler had made sure he was well-prepared for life.

Since Jenna had Alec, she pretty much let him fend for himself. By seven, Alec was already whipping up meals.

Jenna once watched smovie

that made her paranoid about leaving Atec in the care of staff, fearing wild scenarios like corporate

espionage. So she always drilled?

Alec's head: "To be a real man, you've got to learn to live on your own."

The first part sounded reasonable, but then she'd add: "Other kids, by three, are already washing dishes. By five,

they're cooking meals

into

their parents. You're a bit behine

so

we won't push too hard. Just make sure that by seven, you're getting to and from school, doing the laundry, and

cooking. We'll handle takeout."

Thinking about this, Sophie rubbed her forehead. Compared to Alec, Fiona's childhood seemed pretty normal. At

least she and Colby hadn't actually left their daughter halone.

By midday, Colby had arranged a driver and even booked a fancy hotel suite.

But then, Sandy unexpectedly showed up.

Apparently, after catching Sophie's post, Sandy had someone rush over to the spot, arriving just in tto say,

"Sorry, I'm late!"

"No one invited you," Colby grumbled, clearly annoyed.

He'd planned this world tour honeymoon meticulously, and Sandy wasn't part of

the plan. In fact, none of their friends were supposed to tag along.

"I know! But overseas is my turf, right? | couldn't let you spend your own money; could I?" Sandy said. "So |

dashed over right after class, sorted out a personal driver, and

bou the swankiest suite on a

cruise!"
