How did we end up with an extra Mr. Ward at the table?
Prompted by the manager's reminder, the realization suddenly dawned on the men seated around.
"Right, Mr. Perry, Mr. Ward isn't even here yet!"
"Mr. Perry, the guest of honor today is Mr. Ward!"
"After all the effort you took to invite him over, akin to rolling out the red carpet three times, you start drinking
before he arrives? That's not how it's done!"

And here | was, mistaking someone else for him.
Mr. Perry, visibly sheepish yet having already poured Marguerite a drink, couldn't let it go to waste without
causing a scene.
So, he wasn't about to let Marguerite off easily, taking her other hand and drawing circles on her palm with a
teasing gesture.
"Marguerite, see, this is why I like you. I'll let you off with just one drink for these three toasts. Makehappy,
and I'll see to it that Mr. Ward invests in your Poppy Petal Fragrances too. How does that sound?"
Marguerite, fighting back her disgust, pulled her hand away and slammed the drink down on the table, her gaze

Mr. Perry's face fell instantly, a warning glare shot back at her. "What's this supposed to mean?"
"I won't be drinking this," Marguerite stated flatly, publicly causing Mr. Perry to lose face.
Enraged, he pointed at Marguerite and shouted, "Marguerite! Don't bite the hand that feeds you! What makes a
lowly PR like you think you can refuse a drink? Do you or do you not want investment?"
"Sorry, but your investment? I'm not interested. I'm here for Mr. Ward."
Her statement was met with uproarious laughter from Mr. Perry, as if she had just told the joke of the century.
The other executives also chuckled, their mocking glances suggesting Marguerite was out of her depth.
"You're here for Mr. Ward? And you think he'd invest in you? Do you even know who he is? Think he'd give you
the tof day?"
"That's right! Even Mr. Perry had to make several trips abroad, practically begging, before Mr. Ward agreed to
meet with us! And here you are, hoping to reap the benefits of our dinner meeting?"
The executives began to flatter Mr. Perry, whose smugness returned as he looked at Marguerite.
"Marguerite, it's good to be ambitious, but what can your little project rake in? How much could your company
possibly offer you in commission?
Play your cards right, keepcompany, and I'll make sure you soar high!"
Marguerite ignored him, instead retorting with a smirk, "A little project? Mr. Perry, how much do you know about
our fragrance project, exactly?"
"Your Poppy Petal Fragrances is just a small company. How profitable can
perfbe? I'm already being generous by considering an investment!
Marguerite, don't play dumb. If you lose this partnership, aren't you afraid of your boss coming after you?"
Afraid?
Running my own show, there's not much I'm scared of.
Marguerite lifted her chin, her cold gaze fixed on him, silent.
One woman, unable to stand Marguerite's lofty demeanor, cleared her throat and
turned to Mr. Perry with exaggerated flattery.
"Mr. Perry, you're absolutely right. When it comes to perfumes, I've only ever
heard of Polar Radiance in Stonebridge City holding a monopoly.
They never even went public, but a small market research project had customers yearning for three whole years!
If Polar Radiance ever decides to relaunch, that's a guaranteed goldmine."
Marguerite's smile grew more amused.
What? Didn't Violet mention the project nthis morning when she discussed the partnership? Or did she, and
this motley crew simply chose to ignore it?
Marguerite looked at them, feeling no need to explain.
Upon hearing the woman's words and seeing Marguerite's indifferent attitude, Mr. Perry's anger flared even
more, his voice rising, "Hear that? You expectto invest in a project that's not even presentable? How
presumptuous! If | won't invest, what makes you think Mr. Ward would? Ridiculous!"
Just as his words fell, a commanding voice suddenly cfrom the door: "Who says I'm not investing?"
