Chapter 782

Maggie's reaction was swift, her disbelief skyrocketing into a loud exclamation:

"Everything that should and shouldn't have happened, happened?"

"Yes."

"That's impossible!"

"Why is it impossible? Moreover, it was quite intense."

Suddenly, guilt surged within her heart.

Maggie felt she had betrayed Fred, uncontrollably rising to her feet and, with a swift motion, slapped Silas across

the face.

"Scoundrel!"

Breathing heavily, her gaze upon him was fiery with rage.

Yet, inexplicably, she didn't see a trace of anger on his face. Instead, his eyes conveyed an indescribable pain.

His pain made Maggie feel sorrowful, and she always seemed to find a glimpse of Fred in his eyes.

Though it was only the eyes that resembled Fred's, Maggie couldn't help but feel as if Fred was right there with

her.

And so, as she kept looking, she started to question herself - should she have not hit him?

This conflicted emotion frustrated Maggie, leaving her no choice but to sit back down on the bed, turning her

back to him.

Silas took a couple of steps closer to Maggie, seemingly wanting to touch the top of her head as one would pet a

cat.

Yet, he managed to restrain this desire deep down.

"It was you who initiated it, and you who slapped me. What do you have to be angry about?"

"l initiated?" Maggie turned around, disbelief painted all over her face. "What did | even do?"

Silas chuckled, "You called'honey'."

Maggie: "???7"

Could anything be more awkward than this?

How on earth could she have referred to Silas as 'honey'?

Maggie was utterly baffled, it took her a moment to process everything.

If something did happen between them last night, then she must have mistaken Silas for Fred.

Because she remembered, she thought she had caught a whiff of Fred's scent on Silas.

But they were entirely different people, and Fred had long left this world. How could she possibly sense Fred's

presence with Silas?

Maggie's head ached with these thoughts when suddenly Silas straightened her shoulders, asking earnestly,

"Was your husband uglier than me?"

"You can't even compare! He was handsome! A thousand, no, a million times more handsthan you!"

Silas remained unbothered, lightly asking, "Then how did you manage to fall asleep?"

Maggie wanted to lash out at him, but she couldn't muster a single coherent sentence.

With a knowing smile, Silas asked, "So, you never want to seeagain in your life?"

"Absolutely!"

Maggie blurted out, but Silas just had to pull out a contract and toss it into her hands: "Unfortunately, | can't

grant you that wish."

Looking at the contract, Maggie felt a numbness spreading from her scalp to her heart.

So, was she to understand that her collaboration with the venture capital mogul was secured through her body?

Suddenly, she felt an overwhelming urge to cry, mentally apologizing to Fred countless times, yet finding no way

to atone for her mistake.

Seeing the woman's almost tearful plight, Silas's heart softened.

Had his joke gone too far?

Was she really so easily deceived?

His demeanor softened, his face donning a conciliatory smile, his tone gentle, "Alright, | was just teasing you. It

was all a joke."
