Chapter 679
James walked back home, looking completely defeated, only to find his mother in the middle of a
phone call.
Ever since he discovered that his mother had skind of secret connection with Mrs. Sanders, he
had been extra cautious about any of her phone conversations. And today, sure enough, he
happened to overhear her mentioning Sarah.
"This time, Sarah won't be able to get away for sure. We're allies, | wouldn't lie to you."
"Don't worry, just leave this matter to me. Mrs. Sanders, once your son gets control of Sanders
Group, don't forget..."
Mrs. Chancer casually glanced toward the doorway - only to spot her son standing there. She
immediately cut herself off, "I'll talk to you later. James just got home."
After hanging up, James walked in, pretending like he hadn't heard anything. "Mom, who were you
just talking to on the phone?"
Mrs. Chancer brushed him off lightly,
"Don't overthink it. Just a friend of mine... my card-playing buddy."
James obviously didn't believe that excuse. His voice was calm but firm.
"Mom, Sarah and | have nothing to do with each other anymore. Please don't hurt her again."
Mrs. Chancer's face instantly darkened. Pointing at him, she snapped, "Everything I've done — all of it has been
for you. And now you're tellingnot to touch that woman? James, have you forgotten your wife is still locked

Mrs. Chancer had never yelled at her son like this before. But she couldn't forget the other day when she walked
into his study and caught him quietly staring at a photo of Sarah - his eyes full of longing.
"James, wake up. No matter what happens, you and her are impossible now."
James let out a long sigh.
"1 know, Mom."
Meanwhile, back at home, when Melvin walked through the door, the first thing he saw was Sarah busy working
in the kitchen with Marianne. His face lit up with surprise.
"You're back and didn't even tell me?" He walked over happily. "Mr. Lambert toldyou were coming back these
days. | was planning to pick you up! How'd you get home?"
Sarah smiled as she put the chopped vegetables into the pot. "I'm not a kid anymore, Cousin. After | got off the
plane, | went to school to hand in spaperwork, so | didn't bother telling you."
Melvin chuckled.
"Cooking today? Do you even know how to cook?"
"I'm the one making this soup, and | promise it'll taste great!" Sarah grinned, pushing Melvin out of the kitchen
so he wouldn't get in the way.
By the tSarah finally brought the pot of soup to the dining table, the warm, delicious aroma filled the air.
Melvin stared at the soup in disbelief, having a hard taccepting the fact that Sarah had actually made it

Melvin tapped his fingers lightly against the table, the sound crisp and clear. His tone was a little
heavy as he replied, "I wasn't planning on going hfor dad's birthday."
Sarah blinked in surprise.
